12:40pm – Soil Health: Be Your Own Citizen Scientist- Physical properties of soil
Learn some easy ways you can test the physical properties of soil at your own yard or garden and why this is important for healthy soil. We’ll test for soil aggregate stability and compaction.
2:10pm – Water: Be Your Own Citizen Scientist
Learn some easy ways you can observe and test the water resiliency of your own yard or garden and how this relates to healthy soil. We’ll test for infiltration and talk about key observations you can make.
3:40pm – Soil Health: Be Your Own Citizen Scientist- Biological Properties
Learn some easy ways you can observe the biological properties of your own yard or garden and why this is important for healthy soil. We’ll go through a series of fun and simple tests, including earthworm counts and taking a look at the soil horizons.
Activities throughout the day will include:

Sweet Creek Cafe Bake Sale
And workshops about soil and water health will be given by Sarah Nawa from the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture.
All proceeds from the day will support PVCA’s Environmental Education Programming.
